Deep Sea Arcade’s sound is a hypnotic fusion of psychedelic rock and electro, drawing listeners into a cinematic, immersive world filled with etherial guitars, pulsing beats, and haunting melodies. Layered with lyrical storytelling, their music balances dreamy atmospheres with infectious rhythms, creating a sound that is both mesmerizing and unmistakably unique.
Formed by Nic McKenzie and Nick Weaver during their teenage years, the duo experimented with 4-track tape recorders, unconventional computer programs, and broadcast microphones to craft a distinctive blend of genres, weaving together elements of psychedelic rock, disco, and electro. Though Weaver tragically passed away in 2021, McKenzie continues to evolve the band’s signature sound, staying true to their shared vision of combining vibrant textures with a keen sense of melody and song structure. The result is a sonic experience that is both timeless and otherworldly.
Deep Sea Arcade has performed sold-out tours in major Australian cities and participated in Australia’s Big Day Out festival. The band has toured with renowned acts such as Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Spoon, Temples, The Charlatans, Girls, Cloud Control, and Modest Mouse. They have also extensively toured the UK and Europe, making appearances at festivals including Lowlands (Netherlands), Wilderness (UK), Secret Garden Party (UK), Primavera Sound (Spain), Reeperbahn (Germany), Live at Leeds (UK), Liverpool Sound City (UK), and The Great Escape (UK), as well as sold-out headline shows in the UK.
On October 26, 2018, the band released Blacklight, which McKenzie described as "a fusion of soul, electronic, and disco." The release led them to play sold-out shows and festivals in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil and receiving over 5 million streams on Spotify.
